Same-sex marriage, in particular, is causing quite the stir. Recent developments within the LGBTQ community and their fight for marriage equality, such as the repeal of Prop 8 and DOMA, have definitely softened the taboo for some of these issues to be discussed within certain sex realm game, and in this case, the gaming industry. First we would like to start out with opposite-sex marriage, and then consider the feedback from our players in order to make a careful decision. Mass Effect and Fable 3for example, did just fine despite having this option. I think if Square Enix would really pay attention, the answers are already at their doorstep.
In light of recent historical decisions I think the feedback Square Enix is looking for has already made its case. I can see why Square Enix might be concerned about going forward with same-sex marriage, but in my experience, games can lead the way for social change outside of the gaming world because they have an audience that understands diversity.
I think it might actually be a good step forward, and it might just encourage people to talk about the game even more, considering it is such a controversial subject.

I'm male and I typically play as a female character, I've never hidden this fact, typically I found theirs better clothing des, especially in MMO's for the female characters and considering I actually like going cloth shopping with my female friends it makes sense, well at least to me it does.
Besides after I came up with the name Cortalia I fell in love with it and use it whenever I can. As it stands right now, if I did meet someone via game, or say a girlfriend got interested in a MMO's, I or she would have to create a male character in order to get married in-game. At the end of the day, I don't really see an issue with it and I think as a society its a step in the right direction, and seeing as its a virtual world Ecobahn August 12,pm.
This is interesting to find out - and I think you are right. With more and more games being developed that already has same sex relationships as options becoming more prevalent it would seem strange that such a large gaming company such as Square Enix, with it's far-reaching Final Fantasy franchise, would seem to hesitate at all.
I mean I could understand if it was making a "gay game" where relationships are strictly same sex, as in this current social-political climate is too much although perhaps it would be something that might happen in the future maybe, but unlikely I think.
But just having the option there isn't shoving anything in anybody's face.
Let's hope this does get implemented. I'm sure you knew this, but my only qualm about this article is that you've used an image of Lightning, who isn't part of the Final Fantasy A Realm Reborn episode so it was a little misleading to which game this article is in reference to.
